What is Residential Well-being?
How is Residential Well-being different from a traditional residential model?
Students come first in Residential Well-being, and we’ve refocused structures, functions, roles, and processes with that in mind. To start, we separated housing functions to ensure that our Residential Well-being team can focus solely on fostering community, building relationships, and supporting students’ well-being and success, while working collaboratively with colleagues in housing and facilities. And in our new model, professional staff and student leaders are assigned to a group of students, rather than to buildings. These changes may sound small, but they underscore philosophical transformation at the heart of Residential Well-being.
We want every student to feel that they belong and to develop deep, meaningful relationships across difference. And we know that well-being must be built and sustained through relationships. So we’re breaking down our large on-campus population of approximately 10,000 students into smaller groups of 2,000 students. And we’re breaking down our smaller groups of 2,000 students into even smaller groups of 150 students, who will be supported by student leaders for inclusion and belonging, well-being, and ExperienceVT.
